New Year Plans
2012…haha well we’ve made it this far. I can’t believe another year has gone by. I always do some sort of reflection at the end of the year. It was an interesting year. A lot of ups and downs, great moments, sad moments, just a lot in general. It was important to me. Out of all the years, 2011 was definitely one of the more important ones. I can’t explain it now, but I know when I look back at 2011 10 or even 20 years from now, I know it will explain a lot that has happened and will happen.
But enough speculation and reflection. I’d like to write a few notes to my tumblr subscribers on how I hope to spend this year.
1) Join Martial Arts: I’ve always wanted to do some form of martial arts. Watching Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and other major action stars has been a huge impact for me. But it’s also about building character and maintaining peace within oneself that allows these users to wield such calm power. I want to achieve this strength, a piece of mind. And hopefully I can learn some techniques as well. I’m a tough guy, but I want to make a difference in myself, and if the opportunity arises, to protect others and myself.
2) Continue Exercise/Gym Use: I got much better at going to the gym this year. It all began in the summer when I was just fed up with my weight and looking at myself painfully in the mirror. My pectoral, abdominal, biceps, triceps, and a number of other muscle groups improved and strengthened over the course of half a year. Now, along with point 1, I would like to continue this pursuit. Hopefully, I can get my abdominal region to show a lot more.
3) Learn to Cook Better: As a college student, it’s not the most enthusiastic point on my list, but it would be nice if I could cook a bit more around the apartment instead of getting taking out several times of week. A lot of this is pure laziness, but it is also a lack of knowledge of how to properly prepare foods. I plan to spend more time searching for nifty recipes and cook more. I at least want to prepare a decent meal each week , that requires more effort than pressing buttons on the microwave and inserting a tv dinner.
4) Straight As/Better Grades: This one I feel like I’ve attempted my entire time in college, but I feel like I’m on a downward streak in terms of GPA and grades per semester. It’s laziness of course and a lack of discipline. I plan to spend more time at the library or at least somewhere other than my room where I have a gaming computer and dozens of ways to distract myself. I know it’s getting late in my college career, but I at least want to have a semester where I’m not cussing at myself. I just want to feel proud and have no regret at the end.
5) Balance Family/Social/Academics: I think we all get lost in ourselves and fail to remember and treat others around us with proper care. I really want to develop an attitude where I do not lose track of things and am able to effectively communicate with the different circles around me. It’s very vague. For example, I want to do a better job with keeping in touch with my intermediate family and letting them know how I’m doing. This also applies to school and friends. It’s going to be tough and I don’t guarantee any huge change or 100% promise. I just want to make a better effort showing who I am.
6) Play Guitar More: Something I still know how to do, but I never set time to do. I’d like to designate at least 1 or 2 jam sessions for myself, just so I don’t get rusty and I can learn how to play all of my favorite songs. Who knows when the perfect girl is going to come by and she loves to hear some Jason Mraz or some other girl magnet song ha!
7) Read More: Novels, outside business materials, etc. etc. I know this is a longshot, but it would be great to do some reading. I’d like to get in the habit of reading something everyday, even if it is just an hour before bed, or somewhere nice and snug on campus.
Those are the most important things I’d like to get done. I’d also like to a couple of events and tentative events that I am looking forward to:
- Cisco internship starting in May
- 21st birthday on July 1st
- K-Pop Concert of some sort, somewhere.
- Cal Bears coming back to Berkeley
- Start of senior year
- Full-time job searching (not necessarily looking forward to it, but it’s meh)
- 2012 Presidential Election, first time voting in a U.S. Presidential Election
- Guild Wars 2 Release (hopefully -_-)
- Clubbing
- Getting a chica for myself, yadiamean?
There’s so much to look forward to. And quite possibly a lot more things to add to this list. 2012 here we go!
